Artist Statement

I am an Australian artist who has pursued an interest in traditional metalsmithing and its use incontemporary visual artspractice for 30 + years. My work examines the nature of preciousness and the preciousness of nature. Transience, ephemerality, sensuality, and reciprocity are key words in my practice - so too an understanding of community, relationships, and the entanglement of life. The act of making for me is a meditation on growth; realized through the fluid potential of a medium often perceived as static. I work with repurposed nonferrous metals sourced from redundant currency, old electrical cables, and jewellery from failed relationships. These metals are cast into forms from nature that speak of resilience and protection and are often articulated to create movable parts.
